I'll take care of the rest.
I'll take care of the rest.
I am a classically trained NYC-based performer who specializes in physical theater, interactive storytelling, and socially engaged theater arts.
I teach movement, writing, and improvisation workshops on empathy, intimacy, communication, consent, and vulnerability to humans of all ages.
I live in a world wrought with contradictions, bound by paradoxes, and teeming with intersecting identities. I painfully witness that I am both a voice and a symbol of silence, a colonizer and a slave, the creator and the destroyer, the loved One and the forgotten Other. I am Poseidon who summons the storm and the human who gets trapped in it; I am man and woman, parent and child, citizen and alien.
The creative process is not an action but a home. It is a traveling home that I carry regardless of whether I am living in gritty and raw New York City, smoggy & fast Shanghai, folky & pastel New England or the beaches & temples of southeast Asia, the bloody sunrises of the Nevada desert, the colorful spice souks of Marrakesh, the flamenco performances in the basements of Madrid, or on the inner Mongolian highlands - hair whipped by wind, skin chapped, heart happy.
I have learned that while it is possible to exist cushioned and safe and asleep, the only way to be alive is to be awake. And now that my eyes are open, I cannot possibly ever close them again.
We, the makers of worlds, the writers of stories, the creators of communities, the people who have made it our life's work to be fearless and fierce imaginers, the people who spill over the edges of where our bodies try and contain us, we create because it is the only way we know how to exist.
For us, there is only creation and destruction – nothing in between.
So in defiance against destruction, in defiance against death, we create to stay alive.
My performance modalities range from handling classical text to experimental physical storytelling, interactive performance arts, Butoh, puppetry and burlesque.
I have appeared on the NYC stage at The New Ohio Theater, Interart Theater, The Box, The McKittrick Hotel, The Wild Project, Irondale, Theater for a New City, South Oxford Space, The Drunk Shakespeare Lounge, the undergroundzero Festival and the ICE Factory Festival as well as many site-specific locations.
I committed to community building and social change as an educator and facilitator. My theater company The Collective Sex was born out of my original play This Is Not A Play About Sex which is currently being performed as first year orientation for +3,500 (and counting) college students.
I lead workshops on communication, consent, intimacy, and embodiment. My areas of focus are positive sexuality, consent, assault prevention and gender.
I was classically trained at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art (London) and graduated summa cum laude from Colgate University (Women's Studies & Theater).
I have studied clowning, neutral mask, classical Chinese dance, improvisation, Alexander technique, stage combat, political theater, forum theater, and am a trained facilitator.
